2009: Freelancers & filmmakers

We started off as filmmakers for short films and not only were we nominated, but also emerged as winners in several competitions.  At this stage, we participated in the 2009 Short Film Competition organized by the British Council in Yemen. As a result, our Director was granted training courses in Film Directing which were run by established British filmmakers. Surprisingly, our two films won the first place in the Zoom Competition held by the British Council. Another film was also produced which was then screened in Liverpool in the United Kingdom (UK).

2011: HR Filmmakers Group on November 11, 2011

We started establishing our foothold in the industry by doing documentary films. We started with several smaller productions. Along the way, a prominent step in dotnotion’s journey was the establishment of the HR Filmmakers Group on November 11, 2011. An additional feather in the cap was the nomination and screening of our short film Red Line, at the Karama Film Festival.

2013: From HR Filmmaking Company to dotnotion on November 11, 2013 / This was then followed by the successful transformation of HR Filmmaking group into dotnotion on November 11, 2013.

dotnotion’s work has been receiving accolades by being nominated and/or awarded prizes in international film festivals yearly ever since the conception of the company. dotnotion’s talent pool of established and award-winning filmmakers who are located throughout Yemen bring a new perspective on media productions without digressing from the actual story. We take pride in the quality of our productions, and our attention to details while telling relevant stories is evident through our work. All while adhering strictly to our clients’ deadlines.

In 2013, dotnotion went on to clinch the First Global winner’s place in the 60 Seconds Film Festival 2013. This was followed by winning the 1st prize in the UN Creativity Competition in 2014 with the short film named Blind Eyes. To date, dotnotion’s films have been receiving accolades by either or both being screened, nominated and/or awarded prizes in prestigious international film festivals yearly, including the Dubai Film Market Cinetech.

dotnotion has delivered a myriad of outstanding works for acclaimed clients including local and international NGOs. dotnotion is also the media sponsor now for UNICEF Yemen for 2 years. This has led to a trust to the family of the United Nations (UN) programs including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), World Food Programme (WFP) and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) among others. Additionally, our portfolio also consists of countless works on awareness, movies, music videos and flash productions among others. We believe knowledge should be shared. dotnotion does training workshops and provides on-ground training for new and aspiring filmmakers every year.
